Local legend says that Doreen was named
at a public meeting in the very early days of the areas settlement.
The country around Doreen at the time was unofficially
known as Hazel Glen after a large property in the region.
The meeting was formed to officially name the region. Local residents
wanted the name to be maintained as Hazel Glen. However the owner
of the namesake property was not interested in confusing the region
with his own private property and suggested another name should
be found.
After a lengthy and largely fruitless discussion someone
piped up with;
“ I’ve got a niece called Doreen –
that’s a lovely name.” So Doreen it became!
